Journalism will not die; it will thrive, due to the technological advances that we now have.
According to Arianna Huffington, journalism is not dying; it is simply changing with the times. The internet is allowing us to get countless news stories, from a range of topics, almost immediately. She also claims that until the older generation completely dies off, there will always be a market for newspapers.
I agree with Huffington, journalism is certainly not dying, it’s just different now. Instead of being subjected to the typical, boring, depressing news stories, with the internet, I can decide for myself what is newsworthy. I can read what I want to read, and skip over what I don’t.
Clearly, the newspaper industry is bombing, and it’s bombing fast. I don’t know anyone who still pays hard earned money for a newspaper, even my grandmother checks CNN.com daily. Why pay money for a paper with only select stories if you can read the stories you are actually interested in for free online?
This is a wonderful time to be a journalist. There isn’t anyone that can tell you that what you like, or what you write about isn’t important or isn’t news.
The truth is, the standards and criteria for news have changed. It isn’t a good change or a bad change; it’s just a generational change.
